Up first...

What was one of your favourite projects at Abbey Road this year?

Geoff

"The new Coldplay album Moon Music & the catalogue vinyl recuts for PET recycled material. This is groundbreaking to be involved in a truly “green” way of manufacturing records."

Dan

"Gladiator II. It was really rewarding to work on such a high-profile project."

Oli

"Atmos sessions for The Cure’s Songs Of A Lost World. The opportunity to share a space with creative people is the bit I love most about this job, so sitting with Robert Smith over a few days (nights) to work on his music with him is, and I think will always remain, a career highlight. The few moments we were able to steal between work to chat about life and music, both in context of the album and outside, were special."

Christopher

"This year’s favourite project has got to be Project Relic! That was the codename for Indiana Jones and The Great Circle. It was a real joy to be engineering for my dear friend and Grammy Award-winning composer Gordy Haab again. There are many fantastic musical moments in this game, ranging from the sublime to… sad trombone noises; whomp whomp whomp!"

Cicely

"Can I give two answers? I did some tracks with a band called PUNCHBAG recently, I’m not sure what’s been released yet but keep an eye out!! And the other is everything that I’ve done with Max Richter – I mastered his album earlier this year, and since being here, I’ve mastered the release of a score that he did for a ballet called MADADDAM, which I went to see a few weeks ago and it absolutely blew my mind."

Frank

"Probably Shed Seven – because the two albums they released this year A Matter Of Time and Liquid Gold both hit the Number One spot in the UK Charts in 2024. Quite an achievement and exceptionally rare. Especially for a small record label."

Seth

"Gladiator II - a big tutti orchestra playing some iconic themes in Studio One was definitely my idea of entertainment. All the majesty of the coliseum, with less violence."

Hannes

"Conclave. Great story, cinematography and of course, music and sound."

Zoran Veselinović (Technical Services)

"My guitar hero since end of 70’s, Vlatko Stefanovski came to Studio Three in October to record 23 songs over two days celebrating his 50th anniversary in the industry. Having the opportunity to meet him and be involved in the session was a great honour."

What was your favourite album in 2024?

Geoff

"As a listener, Bill Laurance & Michael League’s Keeping Company. A couple of neo-jazzers I really like."

Dan

"Mari Samuelsen’s Life. An amazing solo violin album on DG with some of my favourite contemporary composers, Steve Reich, Max Richter, Nils Frahm, Jóhann Jóhannsson, etc."

Oli

"Hugo Brijs, Creeper."

Christopher

"Favourite record this year has been VENT by Laura Jane Wilkie. She’s an incredible fiddle player based in Glasgow. This album is based on a collection of Waulk songs; there’s a great description of the record here."

Cicely

"There’s so much to choose from!! I was recently recommended Creeper by Hugo Brijs and I’ve been listening to that on repeat."

Frank

"KeaneHopes and Fears 20. Remaster of the original album with extra tracks and demos. It was very interesting to hear how the tracks developed from the original demo versions."

Seth

"Fontaines DC - Romance."

Hannes

"Björk's Utopia has been going on repeat in my home."

Zoran Veselinović

"Wall Of Eyes by The Smile. The collaboration of Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood and Tom Skinner must be heard if you haven’t already. I played a very small part in their sessions in Studio Two."

Which new artist, band or release are you most excited about for 2025?

Geoff

"Ruthven, pronounced “ruff en”. A record I worked on a year or so ago for a new artist signed to Beggars. South London’s answer to Prince. Watch this space!"

Dan

"The re-opening of Studio One!"

Oli

"Aki Oke. I've just mastered their debut single, slated for release in early January, and it's a banger."

Christopher

"This is an absolute cop-out, but I can’t tell you what release I’m most excited about for 2025, because it’s still a secret. I’m sorry… But it’s quite unusual for me and it’s been a great opportunity to collaborate and stretch my legs in a way that I don’t usually get to. It’s definitely been the most fun. Ask me again In a few months? 😝"

Cicely

"I had the absolute pleasure of working with an artist called Sarah Kinsley over the last couple of years. She released her amazing debut album this year and I’m really excited to see what she gets up to in 2025!"

Frank

"A new album from Oasis I hope."

Seth

"I was lucky to catch the crazy tones of Zsela supporting Arooj Aftab at The Roundhouse recently. A new discovery I'm looking forward to hearing more from."

Hannes

"Alas I delve too deep into medieval music. I need to keep up with the press..."

Zoran Veselinović

"I’m sure Chappell Roan will rule the airwaves next year, but there might be some AI artist breakthrough… I think that will happen sooner or later!"
