Slippin Away is indicative of
L DEVINE’s continuing artistic evolution, which melds her renowned diaristic and self-deprecating lyrical themes with a sound that blends her alt-pop heart with the raw feel of its live instrumentation.
L DEVINE says,
“Slippin Away is my way of taking the piss out of my patterns in relationships. I protect myself a lot in my songwriting by being self-aware and making fun of myself before anyone else can. It’s a tongue-in-cheek love song about smothering someone with love so much that you push them away.”Slippin Away is released alongside
L DEVINE’s session performance filmed for our
Equalise programme. It’s a
series of exclusive performance and interview films that illuminate a diverse range of queer voices across music and the wider creative arts.
The programme features intimate performances and interviews filmed at
Abbey Road and our sister studio,
Angel Studios and was born from the studio’s vision to celebrate creativity and queer artistic expression. The intention for the series has been to celebrate these artists foremost for their brilliance, whilst also shining a light on their queerness and personal journeys as LGBTQ+ individuals. The video was directed by
Devon Kuziw.
L DEVINE adds,
“The album is a bit of a different direction sonically in that we recorded way more live instruments on it than I ever have before and I think this song especially has a proper band feel to it. So being able to record a live session with Devon at Abbey Road and show people what’s to come on the live side of things was so exciting.”
