Learning & Events

We believe that the craft, knowledge and stories of Abbey Road and the worlds that surround it should be open to new generation of music makers. It’s about time and everyone’s invited.

Our learning programmes and events combine almost a century of knowledge with the latest techniques and expertise. We do it through accredited courses at Abbey Road Institute, at festivals like Amplify and Equalise and are always looking to build future affiliations with music schools around the world.

Through our events, we’re collaborating with artists, brands and festivals to show how Abbey Road can add its magic, bring people together and curate an unparalleled experience. KITE Festival is launching at Abbey Road on Friday 5 October, with an impressive line-up of upcoming and legendary performers, thinkers, writers and public figures from the world of music, innovation, creativity and current affairs. All hosted across our three most iconic studios.

Altogether, our learning opportunities and events welcome in more people from more backgrounds to Abbey Road.

Abbey Road Series

Homegrown talks, festivals and bootcamps where we open our doors, welcome the outside in and let the inside out. Our Series are all about sharing the stories, know-how and vibe of Abbey Road with a bigger audience so that the world can see, hear, feel and learn what we’re all about.

Music Photography Awards

Created in 2022, the Abbey Road Music Photography Awards (MPAs) was designed to elevate the art of music photography and showcase the talent behind the lens. At its heart is a global competition which culminates in an awards night at Abbey Road, but the MPAs has become a year-round commitment offering events, workshops, exhibitions and mentoring to support and empower the community.

An online Skills Hub provides valuable advice and guidance for photographers at all levels, while October 2024 sees the launch of an online directory which serves as an essential resource for artists, labels, managers and creatives searching for the most exciting and accomplished talent in music photography.

Amplify

Every year, we open our doors to the next generation of music makers. A free festival, Amplify includes panel talks, workshops, masterclasses and 1 to 1 mentoring sessions; all focusing on music production, film composition and songwriting. It’s a chance to learn from industry experts, get feedback on original work, and meet new collaborators. And you can be part of the action from anywhere in the world via our free live stream.

Previous panellists include James Ford, Nile Rodgers, Paul Epworth, Yard Act, Olivia Dean, James Newton Howard, M Huncho, Isabel Waller Bridge, Tiffany Calver, Steve Albini, Steve Mac, Tony Visconti, Maverick Sabre and Gracey.

Equalise

We don’t just want the next generation of female and non-binary music makers to be represented in the industry – we want them to lead it. Every year, we invite top artists, composers, engineers, producers, managers and marketing creatives to come to Abbey Road and share their knowledge. A four-day festival with in-person and remote access, Equalise inspires music makers across a wide range of topics; from film scoring to songwriting to innovation and tech. It’s an opportunity to get 1-1 mentoring, join panel discussions and take part in recording sessions with top engineers and producers.

Queer voices are also an essential part of Equalise. Our Pride series showcases exclusive performances, films and interviews from a diverse range of artists across music and the wider creative arts.

Previous participants include English Teacher, Picture Parlour, Fiona-Lee, Baby Queen, Shura, Georgia, Dani Bennett-Spragg, Nainita Desai, Anne Nikitin and Anne Dudley.

Lock-In

A series designed to reveal the musical creative experience, offering a window into an otherwise closed process. Artists are invited into the studios for an unexpected collaboration, or to record a new interpretation of an existing song, using only the mix of vintage instruments and future tech here at the studios. Jane Weaver, Django Django x Denai Moore, Hak Baker and Fontaines D.C. have all released Lock-In singles over the last two years with more to come in 2024.

Collabs

Our job at Abbey Road is to do whatever we can to bring the best out of the music makers we work with. Our collab events are just the same. Partnering with artists to launch or celebrate their work. Partnering with brands that have a purpose and outlook in tune with our own. And partnering with festivals of music and creativity to bring a unique Abbey Road experience to their vision.

Take a look at 2024’s KITE Festival at Abbey Road, which we curated with Tortoise Media to present a compelling line-up of live music, original thinking and inspiring conversations.
