For the next seven days, we are inviting songwriters to record their originally written songs on Topline, our free songwriting app, and submit for the chance of a 30-minute online feedback session from our own Chief Creative Advisor Nile Rodgers and three of his favourite songwriters: Jamie Scott (One Direction, Rag’n’Bone Man, Rudimental & Jess Glynne), Giorgio Tuinfort (David Guetta, Rihanna, Sia, Ariana Grande & Whitney Houston) and Poo Bear (Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran, Billie Eilish & Mariah Carey).

We are sharing a deeper insight into the four judges, and today we delve into the prolific career of writer and producer Giorgio Tuinfort. Nominated for four Grammys, and winning twice, Giorgio Tuinfort has also won the prestigious BMI Songwriter Award an unprecedented 30 times. His catalogue comprises of over 180 songs, including over 23 number one singles, six of which are with David Guetta.

Merck Mercuriadis, Founder of The Family (Music) Limited and Hipgnosis Songs Fund Limited, speaks highly of Giorgio, saying “Giorgio is arguably the most underrated hit songwriter of the last 20 years. He could just as easily be composing a piano concerto as co-writing magnificent pop like “The Sweet Escape” for Gwen Stefani or “One Last Time” for Ariana Grande. He has quietly been the partner of choice for everyone from Akon to David Guetta and has been instrumental, literally, in their incredible successes. For me “Titanium” is as sophisticated as pop can get. Giorgio’s work is sublime.”

Born in Paramaribo, Suriname, Giorgio grew up in the Hague, Netherlands. After studying classical and jazz music and training at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, he was discovered at the tender age of 16 by Rutger “Rutti” Kroese. He started out working with established Dutch artists, soon expanding his career internationally and working with Akon. After creating a style that became influential across the radio pop scene, Giorgio began working with the likes of Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga, Sia, Whitney Houston, Rihanna, and Britney Spears. 2009 saw the start of his collaboration with David Guetta, turning the radio pop culture on its head, combining EDM with pop and urban music.

This doesn't mean Giorgio lost his classical roots, stating that classical music is the ”love of his life”. Working with Franck van der Heijden, he composed the theme song of the UEFA Nations League, gained huge critical acclaim and hailed as one of the best contemporary classical pieces of modern time.
