For our 90th anniversary we're looking back at some key pieces of equipment that helped establish and define Abbey Road Studios.
First up is the EMI Studio Mixer built in the 1940s. One of the oldest surviving recording mixers in the world, it's among the first in a long line of EMI-designed mixing consoles made specifically for the Studios.
Seen here are Laurie Bamber and Edward "Chick" Fowler operating the mixer.
The inputs on the left side of the panel adjusted the volume of each microphone. On the right-hand side, a second setup of the microphones could be pre-set, allowing the engineer to fade from one to the other using the centre control.
