Barry White’s influential work with the 40-piece ensemble Love Unlimited Orchestra will be re-issued on a seven-CD box set, remastered from the original analog tapes for the first time since their initial release. Five of their iconic records have also been cut to high-quality 180-gram vinyl at Abbey Road Studios.
After working as a songwriter and producer in the late '60s and early '70s, White signed with 20th Century Records in 1973, issuing his debut solo LP, I’ve Got So Much to Give, that year. During that era, he led and conducted the 40-piece Love Unlimited Orchestra as his backing band. The group released seven albums under their own name for the label, including: Rhapsody in White, White Gold, My Sweet Summer Suite, From a Girl’s Point of View We Give to You… Love Unlimited and In Heat.
These five records have been cut to vinyl at Abbey Road Studios by senior mastering engineer, Geoff Pesche. Geoff explains: "It’s always nice, as a soul fan, to work on reissues that leapt out of the radio when I was a kid. These Barry White / Love Unlimited remasters have been beautifully restored from the original master tapes. All of the records were a joy to cut up here in Room Five."
Love Unlimited Orchestra: the 20th Century Records Albums (1973-1979), will be out 29 March.
