Taking an unusual route into the world of audio engineering, Alex graduated from the University of Sheffield with a first-class degree in English Literature before joining Abbey Road in 2004, initially in the post room of the Video Services department. After subsequent stints in the Abbey Road Interactive and Audio Products departments, he eventually found a home with the Post-Production team in 2012 as transfer engineer, becoming adept with analogue tape formats and soaking up as much knowledge from the senior mastering engineers as possible, until now joining them as a fellow mastering engineer.
A lifelong music obsessive, Alex spent his 20s playing in bands, producing music, collecting records and DJing in clubs around the UK. Although underground club music in its myriad forms is his first love, he maintains a voracious appetite for music of all kinds, from struggling to keep up with the latest rap and R&B mixtapes to digging through obscure 80s Japanese pop, gospel funk, post-punk, avant-garde compositions and everything in between. Alex is also a resident DJ at the monthly New Atlantis event in Peckham, London's Premier New Age/Ambient Music Social, playing spiritual jazz and synthesizer curios to hungover people on Sunday afternoons.
Since joining the mastering team, Alex has worked with artists including Novelist, Crass, Florence + The Machine, Slowthai, Yussef Dayes, Cocteau Twins, Raye, Sinead Harnett and Sigrid. And as a huge vinyl fan, he is hungry to continue cultivating his own discography.
